Garden State Equality announced "Reflections and Community Empowerment Featuring New Jersey Legislators and Leaders of State and National Organizations" would take place on two dates: Wednesday, Oct. 6 at Rutgers; and Thursday, Oct. 7 in Ridgewood to discuss gay issues after the death of Tyler Clementi, the former RHS student who'd taken his own life after dormmates allegedly transmitted a sexual encounter with another man over the internet.
The Ridgewood event will be 7 p.m. Thursday at , 169 Fairmount Road.
The event is presented by Garden State Equality with BiGLARU (Bisexual, Gay and Lesbian Alliance at Rutgers), Delta Lambda Phi of Rutgers, HiTOPS, Human Rights Campaign, Lambda Legal, LLEGO (Queer People of Color at Rutgers), National Gay and Lesbian Task Force, PFLAG, Queer Coalition at Rutgers, and the Trevor Project.
Local students who knew Clementi, plus Senator Loretta Weinberg and Senator Kevin O'Toole will be there.
