Glen Rock Fire Department Fields More Calls in 2011

Increase of more than 60 calls than were responded to in 2009, statistics show

The kept busy in 2011 – the department responded to more than 360 calls, totalling 6,563 man hours, according to statistics provided to Patch.

The total appears to mark a trend. In 2010, the department logged 338 calls, and in 2009 there were just over 300.

"My men respond to a wide variety of calls from rescues,carbon monoxide alarms, electrical, smoke, odor alarms, malfunctions to actual structure fires," said Thomas Jennings, the fire chief. "We are there when the public needs us, regardless of the time of day.”

In perhaps the most memorable fire, responders arrived at a on a hot July day. 

“Glen Rock has one of the best all volunteer departments in the state,” Jennings said.
