LaBruno was charged with first-degree aggravated sexual assault, second-degree sexual assault, and third-degree endangering the welfare of a child, said the Bergen County Prosecutor's Office.

Prosecutors said that LaBruno began talking to the child on a social media application, then arranged for them to meet.

LaBruno went to the child’s home when they were alone, prosecutors said.

'Mentally Incapacitated'

According to court documents, LaBruno sprayed an unknown substance onto his hand and placed it over the victim's mouth and nose. Then, the complaint says, LaBruno forced the victim to perform oral sex on him.

According to the complaint, the victim was dizzy and "mentally incapacitated" because of the substance.

The child was taken to a medical facility to be treated, the complaint says.

LaBruno was brought to the Bergen County jail, where he awaits a detention hearing.

LaBruno recently ran as a Democrat for 39th District Assembly, and was initially on the gubernatorial ticket of Steve Fulop.

Jersey City Police Respond

LaBruno was immediately suspended without pay from the Jersey City Police Department after his arrest, said a city public safety spokeswoman.

Spokesperson Kimberly Wallace-Scalcione said Jersey City police will assist the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office with the criminal investigation, and the Police Department's Internal Affairs department will conduct its own investigation as well.
