Friday: Girls Lax Wins Group 4 Championship, Ready for Tournament of Champions

Girls defending overall title as Jersey's best team

1) The Ridgewood girls lacrosse team emerged from its battle against Washington Township as Group 4 champs, defeating the 8-seed by a score of 14-11. Kelsey Smesko netted 4 goals while Jess Miller and Sammy Giordano chipped in three apiece in a see-saw game. The state's top team–and one of the best in the country–will play Chatham on Tuesday as it defends its 2010 Tournament of Champions title (see photo). A big congrats to the girls.

2) West Side Presbyterian will be hosting a series of dynamic musicians to pay homage to the musical legacies of Antonin Dvořák and Leonard Bernstein. "Legacy" by the New Jersey Choral Society begins at 8 p.m. and is $20.

3) The LSHSA will be doing a fun bowling meet-and-greet on Sunday, June 12 at Brunswick Fair Lawn Lanes. Give Tricia Mueller a buzz at mueller.tricia@gmail.com to attend the event. RSVP by June 9.

4) Mayor Keith Killion reported at the Wednesday night council meeting that Jackson Terrace residents have had some concerns over traffic. The village engineer is reviewing a plan to make the street a one-way and police are expected to put down plates to determine why it's a cut-thru. Killion said the residents seem to understand that the wheels of municipal government move slow but the village is working to remedying the situation.

5) What a day, what a day! Check this one out: Friday will be 72, sunny with a nice breeze. It really doesn't get any better than that.
