Large Turnout Expected For Ridgewood Affordable Housing Meeting

Ridgewood will add seating for the next affordable housing meeting.

RIDGEWOOD, NJ — As Ridgewood debates how to build affordable housing in order to meet state requirements, they've scheduled another meeting for Wednesday — and they expect high attendance.

"In anticipation of a large turnout for the Village Council meeting tomorrow night...we have arranged additional seating in the Senior Lounge on the first floor of Village Hall," noted town officials in a message Tuesday.

Towns across the state have been discussing how to meet their state affordable housing mandate, which has roots in a 1980s court case. They’re currently focusing on "fourth round" obligations (2025-2035), for which Ridgewood introduced a plan this summer.

Some of the local plans have ignited opposition, including a proposal for a 120-bed senior facility at North Maple Avenue, Marshall Street, and Franklin Avenue.

Last month, a group called Ridgewood Neighbors cited traffic concerns and other issues at a public meeting about the facility. READ MORE: Ridgewood Residents Debate Proposed Senior Housing

This Wednesday's meeting will take place at 7:30 p.m. and may include a vote on zoning changes related to the housing obligations.

Officials said the public can attend the meeting at the town's court house in person, but once the room is filled to capacity, they will be directed to the Senior Lounge to watch and participate via Zoom.

Remote access will also be provided. See the instructions and meeting agenda here.

The courthouse is located at 131 North Maple Ave.
