Glen Rock Residents Targets Of Job, Medicare Scams, Police Say

One man was promised a job and was sent a check for $2,650 for equipment he allegedly needed for the job, police said.

GLEN ROCK, NJ, — Two borough residents were targeted in different scams recently, police said.

A man reported Wednesday he received a job offer via email, interviewed online, and was offered the job, police said.

The man received employment documents and a cashier's check for $2,650 from Federal Express. The money was allegedly for equipment the man had to purchase for the job, police said.

The man noticed the check was drawn on an account of a company not associated with the job. He called the company who allegedly offered the job and was told by the human resources department that the job offer was not legitimate, police said.

Glen Rock detectives are reviewing the matter.

In related news, an elderly man got a call from someone claiming to be a Medicare representative June 17.

The man gave the caller his full name and Medicare number before a family member overheard the conversation and hung up on the caller, police said. The caller did not get enough information to commit any fraudulent activity, police said.

Police urge residents to call Medicare at 1-800-633-42273 before giving any personal information out.
