Trick-or-Treating Will Not Be Postponed, Officials Say

Council has decided to allow for 'parental discretion'

Village council members and top officials say although they've received requests to "postpone" Halloween, the day of spooks and candy will remain Monday.

According to Mayor Keith Killion, it was not a decision the village took lightly but one he said should ultimately be the domain of parents.

"There's been a consensus of the council that we not postpone Halloween and we rely on the discretion of the parents to decide where and how long their children should go Trick-or-Treating," Killion said Monday.

Parents should supervise their children, Killion said, and make determinations as to which areas are safe and which are not.

There's no curfew in place though the school district in a communication with parents said kids should not be out after dark. It was a message echoed by PSE&G, which in a statement said due to the downed wires and trees down, "extreme caution" should be taken.
