Sport Camps, Brain Games Offered for Glen Rock Kids

Drama and day camp also among the programs offered by the Community School this summer.

Though many may be heading to the shore or traveling the exotic beaches of the world, Glen Rock kids don't have to leave the borough for a wealth of awesome activities this summer.

The is accepting registration from those in preschool all the way up to high school for its 2012 summer programs.

All registration is now handled online, so head over to the Community School's website or give 'em a call Monday-Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Everything you need to know about registration, start dates and pricing is up on the site.

Day Camps

Busy Bee, for grades 1-5, and Jr. Busy Bee, for incoming kindergartners are all-inclusive day camps that offer a wide variety of games, sports, arts and crafts, weekly field trips and daily swim lessons.  For the convenience of working families, Before and After Camp Care for both Busy Bee camps is available Monday-Friday, 7-9 a.m. and 4-6 p.m. New to GRCS this year is Camp International, where students can “spend some time abroad” experiencing the culture, cuisine and history of a variety of foreign lands without ever leaving Glen Rock.

Performing Arts

Studio Stars drama camp will celebrate its 25th anniversary introducing aspiring actors to the excitement of the stage and the thrill of applause. Summer Ballet School is in its 31st year of keeping ballet students on their toes. Brand new this summer is Poetry in Motion, a specialty camp for students entering grades 2 to 4, which combines dance and literature in a truly unique experience.

Two new music camps have been added as well: Summer Band Camp, for students entering grades 5-8, and a Summer Strings Camp, for students entering grades 2-4, will explore the world of musical instruments in the new Performing Arts Wing at GRHS.

Brain Games

The popular Math and Science Camp for students entering grades 1-6 returns for another exciting, stimulating and challenging season in the state-of-the-art GRHS Science Wing.

Book Club invites students at all reading levels who are entering grades 3 to 5 to share their love of reading and writing. The Princeton Review will offer an SAT course to prepare students for the October exam without the conflicts of regular class work, athletics and other commitments during the school year. Math Enrichment will help students entering grades 6-9 prepare for a successful transition to middle and high school mathematics.

Preschool Programs

Play Camp introduces the youngest campers to their first camp experience. Children ages 3 and 4 will enjoy an age-appropriate morning of fun activities including games, crafts, music and water play. In addition, Computer Camp provides preschoolers with their first introduction to computers, and the new Storybook Art Camp inspires budding illustrators with some of their favorite stories.

Sports Camps

Rock Sports Camp is ready to play: GRHS head football coach Jim Kurz has combined some good old-fashioned games with an intro to sports like football, lacrosse, basketball and soccer. This summer, GRCS introduces a new basketball camp for boys entering grades 4-8, run by GRHS head basketball coach Jason Mittelman. Coach Bonnie Zimmermann returns for another summer of tennis and volleyball clinics, and Total Golf Adventures is back with professional golf instruction for children ages 5-11.
