Letter to Editor: Resident Applauds Senior Class, Thankful for Community Involvement
Resident Sean McCooe says it's a busy, wonderful time of the year for a culture of community involvement and service
The Ridgewood School District could not possibly be busier! Each time I look at the website or in the newspaper, there is another wonderful activity or event in progress!
Community involvement and service is an integral part of the culture in the Ridgewood school systems – from the Wiffle for Cancer Tournament held this past Sunday, to a 2nd Junior Guild dance event, “Back Woods”, offering an alternative evening venue for our high school students, to Japan Aid initiatives, First Class Club, and many, many more. We are fortunate to have the broader involvement of groups such as the Rotary Club, with their Project Interact program, bringing action and awareness on global and regional aid issues to the students.
At the Annual Ridgewood High School Awards Banquet held last week, there were 366 local scholarships given out to 168 students. 96% of the senior class is matriculating in higher education. (There are also over 10 Ridgewood students graduating from Bergen County Academies.)
I wish to stand now and applaud our graduating seniors and give thanks to the teachers, administrators, residents, volunteers, and members of our Village who enable this big-hearted and caring environment! We are doing good and getting better!
