Man Charged For Sex Crimes Against Pre-Teens He Met On Internet: Bergen County Prosecutors
A New York man was arrested by Bergen County prosecutors for sex crimes against 2 kids under 13 whom he met on the internet, they said.
BERGEN COUNTY, NJ — A New York State man has been arrested for sex crimes against two children under 13 whom he met on the internet, at least one of whom was from Bergen County, prosecutors said.
Ryan J. McCaffery, 37, of Ridge, N.Y. was charged with sexual assault, child endangerment, and lewdness, prosecutors said.
Prosecutors said that on Jan. 16, the Tenafly Police Department contacted the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Cyber Crimes Unit regarding a sexual online chat conversation that occurred in 2022 between a victim under 13 and an online stranger claiming to be a child.

An investigation by the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office and the Tenafly Police Department identified a second child in contact with the same online stranger, prosecutors said.
"Detectives determined that the stranger requested nude photos and engaged in sexual acts while video chatting with the victims," prosecutors said.

On Jan. 17, in coordination with the New York State Police Internet Crimes Against Children Unit, detectives from the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Cyber Crimes Unit, and the Tenafly Police Department, executed a search warrant at McCaffrey's home in New York.
He surrendered himself to the Bergen County Prosecutor's Office last Friday, prosecutors said.
He was charged with two counts of second-degree sexual assault, two counts of third-degree child endangerment, and two counts of fourth-degree lewdness, prosecutors said.
He was taken to jail pending a first appearance in Bergen County Superior Court in Hackensack.
The investigation is continuing, prosecutors said.
