Masked Gunman Carjacks Merchant In Bergen County: Police

A masked gunman confronted a Midland Park merchant Friday and stole his keys before driving off in the merchant's sports car, police said.

MIDLAND PARK, NJ — A masked gunman confronted a Midland Park merchant outside his shop Friday and stole his keys before driving away in the merchant's sports car, Police Chief Michael Powderley said.

At approximately 6:45 a.m., the merchant parked his BMW M8 in the front lot of Midland Park Shopping Center, and proceeded to walk across Godwin Avenue to his business when the gunman approached him from the corner of the shop, Powderley said.

The merchant ran away, yelling for help, and then tripped and fell near the Dunkin' on Godwin Avenue, at which point the gunman took his car keys, police said.

The suspect got into an awaiting Kia Telluride with another gunman inside, and they drove over to the victim's car. Both the victim's car and the KIA SUV left the scene traveling south on Goffle Road, police said.

No injuries were reported.

Both suspects, who are still at large, were described as wearing all-black clothing with black face coverings and carrying handguns. The investigation is ongoing, police said.
