Monday: Teacher Retires After 39 Years, Sports Showdowns with Ramapo

Hawes teacher Terance Dunn is saying goodbye to the kids after 39 years.

1) Though the agenda looks light, the, usual time, usual place (7:30 p.m. at the Education Center on Cottage Place). The board will be having a presentation of the three winners of the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. writing contest, as well as the Hawes School's award for character. The board will also be discussing revised policies/regulations as well as a referendum update.

2) After 39 years in Ridgewood, Terance Dunn, a second grade teacher at , will be retiring at the end of the year.

3) The Ridgewood boys varsity lacrosse team, which lost to state power Chatham a few days ago, will get a chance at redemption against always-strong Ramapo. The boys will take on the Raiders at 7:00 p.m. in Franklin Lakes.

4) The girls softball team, largely regarded as the best team in North Jersey, will play the Ramapo Lady Raiders at home at 4:15 p.m. That promises to be a good game.

5) You've waited, and now it's here – yard waste collection begins today! Yard waste may be placed at the curb on your designated day in biodegradable paper bags or in refuse containers. Area "A" will receive pickup on Monday. Absolutely no plastic bags will be accepted, officials say. Tree branches must be bundled and tied. The program, after a winter hiatus, will continue through October 4. Yard waste will not be collected from the village recycling barrels.
