UPDATED: Carlstadt Man Cited in Tuesday Night Pedestrian Strike on South Maple

Police say a nurse was struck by a Jeep but injuries appeared minor.

A Carlstadt man has been issued two citations related to a pedestrian strike on South Maple Avenue near , Tuesday night around 5:30 p.m. Mayor Keith Killion was on scene and said in a phone conversation shortly after the incident on Tuesday that the injury to the pedestrian–a nurse at a nearby doctor's office–appeared minor.

Captain Jacqueline Luthcke said Christopher Royer, 43 of Carlstadt was issued a citation for failing to yield to a pedestrian and a failure to produce insurance. Royer will have a date in Municipal Court, Luthcke said.

The victim, Killion said, was taken by EMS to Valley Hospital and had initially refused medical attention but was compelled by her boss, a doctor, to go to the hospital as a precautionary measure. The victim was not in a crosswalk when struck.

Police were seen directing traffic as onlookers watched from across the street and traffic stalled in both directions.

A green Jeep could be seen "parked" northbound on Maple with one portion on the road, the other on the sidewalk by 85 S. Maple, the site of the doctor's office. Royer, along with a female occupant of the Jeep, declined to speak with Patch when approached at the scene.

A few weeks ago a South Jersey man was charged with failure to yield to a pedestrian when a , sending the victim to the hospital with minor injuries. There have been numerous pedestrians struck in Ridgewood since December–mostly in the Central Business District–and the council has said in recent discussions that it's a concern it is taking very seriously.

Recent discussions have noted potential plans to station more police officers in the CBD and a renewed effort to educate and enforce pedestrian safety.
