Man Charged In 2 Bergen County Burglary Attempts: Police

After warning residents about a pattern of home and car burglaries in the Ridgewood area, police charged a man for 2 home break-ins.

RIDGEWOOD, NJ — After warning residents of Ridgewood and surrounding areas about a recent pattern in home burglaries, Ridgewood police announced Thursday that they had arrested a man in at least two burglary attempts.

Police charged Alquan Harris of East Orange with second degree residential burglary, they said on Thursday night.

They said that Alquan was charged in the burglary of a home on the 300 block of Mountain Avenue, and an attempt to burglarize a home on the 200 block of Mountain Avenue in Ridgwood.

"Criminal investigations remain active as investigators believe Alquon Harris did not work alone," said Chief Forrest Lyons.

He asked residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activity to police to immediately.

Targeting Homes With Luxury Cars

Earlier, the police had warned that car thieves in Ridgewood and surrounding communities had become "more brazen" and have been breaking into homes with high-end vehicles in the driveway.

Once thieves get the car keys from inside the house, they can steal the car, police said.

Police in Ridgewood said they have been collaborating with other law enforcement around the region.

Chief Lyons thanked Detective Jonathan Berger of the Essex Fells Police Department, Detective Christopher Davis of the Essex County Prosecutor's Office/Homeland Security investigation unit, and Detective Keith Killion Jr. of the Ridgewood Police Department.
