Bergen County Opens Cooling Centers Amid Heat Wave. See When It Ends
More than 1,000 Bergen County residents are without power, and the county has opened 5 cooling centers. See when the heat warning ends.

BERGEN COUNTY, NJ — More than 1,000 PSE&G customers were without power on Monday amid the extreme heat wave in Bergen County, said the website PowerOutage.com.
PSE&G itself reported on its power outage map that there were 304 total active outages in New Jersey, with around 3,100 people affected.

In Bergen County specifically, around 1,330 customers are without power, said PowerOutage.
The PSE&G map said there were three outages outages near Ridgewood, affecting 75 customers, and that power was expected to be restored by 11:30 p.m.

An extreme heat warning was issued for Bergen County until Tuesday at 8 p.m. The National Weather Service said the temperature was 98 degrees in the area at 2:30 p.m.
Heat-related illnesses increase significantly during extreme heat and high humidity events. To prepare for the heat, residents are recommended to take the following actions:
- Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors.
- Do not leave young children or pets in unattended vehicles. Car interiors will reach lethal temperatures in a matter of minutes.
