Private Letters Of Famous Bergen County Poet To Be Made Public
Letters belonging to Bergen County-born William Carlos Williams will be made public in a new biography, his granddaughter told students.
BERGEN COUNTY, NJ — Famed poet and medical doctor William Carlos Williams was born in 1883 in Rutherford, N.J. He went on to author famous poems such as "The Red Wheelbarrow" — but he didn't always get the respect he deserved, according to granddaughter Daphne Williams Fox.
Fox made her remarks this past spring when she visited The Hudson School, an independent school in Hoboken.
The visit was her first time speaking at a school event.

During the visit, Fox, who herself attended Rutherford High School, said that her grandfather was on track to become the country's poet laureate, but was accused of being a Communist and racially profiled.
She said that she plans to publish some of her grandfather's private letters in a new biography, along with her commentary.
