Rash Of Bergen County Break-Ins And Thefts Follows New Pattern, Police Warn

Police in one Bergen County town are warning residents that car thieves have been able to grab their keys from one specific place.

RIDGEWOOD, NJ — Police are warning residents of Ridgewood and nearby towns that recent car thefts in the area have involved a certain pattern: theives breaking into homes when they see luxury vehicles outside.

"Car thieves have become more brazen to obtain the keys to high-end vehicles parked in driveways by breaking into houses," the Ridgewood police said in a message posted to social media this week.

Police said they will increase patrols in residential neighborhoods, but wanted to remind residents to lock doors to their home and car, making a particular note about house windows and sliding glass doors.
