Schools Cancel Halloween Activities
Schools focusing on instruction time, principals telling parents

Update 12:26 a.m Wednesday: Willard will be closed on Wednesday due to the lack of power at the school. Other schools will be open and running on the normal schedule. Halloween activities have also been canceled at Travell and at Orchard.
Original article, 4:38 p.m: As of roughly 4:30 p.m., there's been no official word as to school closures on Wednesday. However, at least two elementary schools have canceled Halloween parties and parades and hope to see everyone back on Wednesday.
Superintendent Daniel Fishbein said Willard is still without power as of 4:35 p.m. "No power, no school," he said. "We are waiting to make an announcement."

Many of the Willard streets have been decimated by the storm. Williams's message is as follows:
The past few days have been difficult for all of us, and I know that many Willard families are still without power. Hopefully you all have found warm and safe places to stay while the storm damage is being resolved.
I hope that everyone had the chance to do some safe trick or treating yesterday and enjoyed dressing up in their costumes. Our original plan was to merely postpone our Halloween parade and parties, but given the continuing circumstances in our area, we will not be able to reschedule those events this year. While we are hoping that power is restored to all schools today, the areas around our school are still not safe. Add to that the missed school days and upcoming conference/convention break, it is in the best interest of the our students and staff to return to our usual routines as quickly as possible.
I know we are all disappointed that we will not be able to have our Halloween extravaganza this year, and I thank you for your cooperation and support. I hope to see everyone back at school on Wednesday!

The message sent by Ridge Principal Jean Schoenlank to parents is as follows:
Dear Ridge Families,
The past few days have been difficult and I know that some Ridge families are still without power. I hope that everyone had the chance to do some trick or treating, safely, and enjoyed dressing up in their costumes. The elementary schools will not be rescheduling the parade or parties this year due to the missed school days and upcoming convention break. It is in the interest of the staff and students to return to our usual routines. Thank you for your cooperation and support. I hope to see everyone back at school on Wednesday!
