Ridgewood Fireworks To Be Held Despite Financial Challenges
Increased costs and stagnant income continue to create challenges for the nonprofit in charge of hosting the fireworks.
RIDGEWOOD, NJ — The annual Ridgewood Fourth of July celebration is still happening despite mounting financial challenges for the nonprofit in charge of them.
The 98-year-old Ridgewood Fourth of July Committee is in charge of the celebration. The group is run by volunteers and received no funding from the village. The program is funded through sponsorships, donations, ticket sales, and a 50-50 raffle.
But increased costs and stagnant income "continue to create challenges" for the group said Deputy Mayor Susan Knudsen, the Village Council's liaison to the nonprofit.

Skydivers had to be cut from the event several years ago for financial reasons.
While Ridgewood's celebration continues, Wyckoff's Labor Day fireworks fundraiser was cancelled for this year.

The event operated at a loss the last few years due to people watching the fireworks from outside where they are held.
The 109-year-old celebration is one of the most popular events in Ridgewood, with people lining up chairs along the parade route days in advance to make sure they get a good seat.
The theme for this year's celebration is "All-American Summer." The parade begins at 10 a.m., rain or shine. Evening entertainment and fireworks begin at 6 p.m.
Sponsorships are still being accepted.
"I'm hopeful fellow residents will help support and save Ridgewood's Fourth of July tradition by donating to the nonprofit organization," Knudsen said.
