Ridgewood Schools Doc Selected as Pediatrician of the Year

Dr. Wayne Yankus will be honored on May 5 for a charity event to benefit the NJ chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics, which named him the top children's doctor in 2011.

Ridgewood Public Schools' chief medical advisor, Dr. Wayne Yankus, has been selected as the 2011 pediatrician of the year by the New Jersey chapter of the American Academy of Pediatricians.

Yankus, a Ridgewood resident who practices at Yankus and Ungerleider Pediatrics in Midland Park, will be honored by the academy at the Children's Ball charity dinner on May 5.

A past president of the NJ AAP, Yankus has been in practice for 32 years, is savvy with social media, and has worked for two decades to link primary care with schools.

Northjersey.com, which first reported the news, quoted Yankus as saying he was "delighted and honored" by the commendation.

"And the nice part of all of this is that the money raised at the dinner goes to the association’s grant-writing arm for research and education," he told the media outlet.
