Ridgewood to Tangle with Ramapo in Real Home Opener

Both teams trying to overcome losses last week

Ridgewood (1-1) will finally play its first home game this season when it locks horns with regional power Ramapo (2-1) on Saturday at 2:30 p.m.

Though few–if any–expected Ridgewood to defeat the nation's top high school football program, Coach Chuck Johnson said the team made a number of correctable errors in its in the home game at Granatell Stadium in Ramsey. The game wasn't as big a blowout as the score suggests but those missed opportunities and turnovers are momentum killers, Johnson said, and things won't get that much easier for Ridgewood again on Saturday.

Luckily, Ridgewood will finally be at its Stadium Field stomping grounds after a longer-than-expected cleanup effort.

They'll likely arrive to find an angry and hungry Ramapo Raiders team that suffered a 31-10 defeat to unbeaten Pascack Valley last week. The Raiders could not muster a rushing attack against Pascack and quarterback Ryan Dougherty was picked off twice in the loss. By contrast, the Indians offensive line was able to open big gaps for its tailbacks, reported The Record.

With an offense that is virtually all run, gaps the size of last week's will likely mean a big day for Ridgewood's rushing tandem of Blake Feagles and Jason Canella.

Head over to RHS Stadium Field at 2:30 p.m. to cheer on the Maroons.
