Council Delays Vote on Speed Limit Changes
Village is amending ordinance language to clarify that only N. and S. Monroe would see a reduction in speed from 35 to 25 mph.

Not all residential streets under the jurisdiction of the village will be , the council said following a lengthy and often confusing discussion Wednesday night.
Mayor Keith Killion originally stated in the spring that he didn't feel any residential roads in the village should be faster than 25 mph zones, given what he called safety issues for pedestrians and drivers.
An ordinance drafted and amended for public introduction tinkered with language that would see a deletion of Monroe Street – currently a 35 mph zone – at its current speed, and add a section that "all" Class III roadways owned by Ridgewood be 25 mph. According to the village code, affected Class III roads apparently only include North and South Monroe, Village Attorney Matt Rogers said.

The village delayed the vote until its June 26 meeting, with officials saying they wanted to clarify some language before expected passage.
As to what speed limits other streets may be subject to, the upcoming council will have to determine if drive 25 across Ridgewood is good law.
