Scammers Target 3 Glen Rock Residents For $49,000: Police
"We would like to remind residents to remain vigilant about these types of unsolicited phone call scams," police in Bergen County noted.
GLEN ROCK, NJ — Scammers tried to steal a total of $49,000 from three Glen Rock residents in a five-day period last month, and were successful twice.
Police said that they received the following reports of scams:
On April 14, a resident said that she found out that someone opened a store credit card in her name, and also managed to make fraudulent charges on her Macy's and J.C. Penny cards. The charges totaled $5,500, police said. The Detective Bureau is investigating.

The next morning, a Glen Rock resident said he received a phone call from someone pretending to be from the Federal Trade Commission telling him that his bank account had been hacked and he needed to transfer $30,000 from the account to a digital wallet to keep from losing it.
He realized the call was a scam and reported it to police.

"We would like to remind residents to remain vigilant about these types of unsolicited phone call scams," police noted.
On April 18, a business owner said an unknown suspect had withdrawn $7,500 from their business account and unsuccessfully tried to withdraw another $6,000. They also said someone tried to change their phone numbers from Verizon to another carrier. The Detective Bureau is investigating.
