Updated: District Cancels School Tuesday, Three Schools Without Power

Power outages, various hazards mean students will ditch the books on Tuesday

Kids can on Tuesday. Multiple parents have told Ridgewood Patch that they've received the calls – due to power outages and hazards on the roads, schools will again be closed. The district confirmed the reports on its website minutes later.

Power outages persist throughout the village, as workers and PSE&G employees work to clear a freak storm in October. According to Ridgewood Public Schools Superintendent Daniel Fishbein, RHS, Willard and Glen School are still without power – he did not know when it would be restored. Fishbein told Patch Monday night he was unaware of any damage to the school buildings spare downed trees.

According to the call sent to parents – which went out at around 4:30 p.m. – Fishbein said students should stay indoors and take precautions to remain safe.

The two Halloween closings are considered "emergency closing days," but Fishbein did not elaborate as to when the days would be made up. Asked how the closings so early in the school year could strain the school schedule, he replied, "only if we need more emergency closing days."

Each school will determine if and when they'll hold Halloween events that were scheduled for Monday, the superintendent said.
