There'll be balloons, face paining, freebies, and butterflies, but it's also a safety fest for families, in honor of Joan D'Alessandro.

In 1973, 7-year-old Girl Scout Joan D'Alessandro, who lived in Hillsdale, asked her mom if she could deliver cookies to a neighbor down the street. She never made it home.An investigation led to the conviction of a chemistry teacher who lived across the street, Joseph McGowan. Over the decades since then, Joan's mom, Rosemarie, fought tirelessly to keep him behind bars when he came up for parole.
