Three-Car Accident Shuts Down East Ridgewood Ave

Chain reaction accident caused extensive vehicle damage, but no apparent injuries

A three-car accident snarled traffic along Ridgewood's main thoroughfare just as school was letting out on Tuesday afternoon.

Fire and police officers shut down East Ridgewood Avenue between Irving Street and Brookside Avenue just after 2:25 p.m. when a Toyota Camry struck the rear of a black Lexus, shooting the Lexus into a Chevy Silverado pickup truck, people involved in the accident told Patch at the scene.

The airbags on the Camry were deployed and there was major front end damage to the vehicle, which witnesses said caused the accident. The Lexus similarly suffered extensive damage, with the entire back end of the vehicle resting on the pavement and the front end crunched upward. The Chevy Silverado had minimal damage, its owners reported.

Fire officials were clearing the scene of fluids and cleaning glass and metal flung from the damaged vehicles. A tow truck was also on-scene.

There were no apparent injuries in an accident that looked violent. Police have not yet formulated a report and thus could not comment on the incident. The road is expected to be opened shortly.
