Thursday: BOE Candidacy, Irene Aid Aps Deadline Drawing Nearer

After a bit of rain, nice weather should return

1) Residents who sustained damage from Hurricane Irene have until Oct. 31 to register for assistance through the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). Those applying for loans through the Small Business Association (SBA) also have until the 31st. For more info, click here.

2) Applications to are due Friday. Anyone interested in submitting an application for the seat should submit it, along with a letter of interest and resume, to Board Secretary Angelo DeSimone, by Friday, October 21 at 4 p.m. Candidates will be interviewed by the Board at its Regular Public Meeting at 7:00 p.m. on Monday, October 24. . The BOE will appoint the applicant they best see fit; that seat will be up for election in April with the term ending in 2013.

3) The rains of Wednesday may not be totally gone, according to forecasters. There's still a chance of showers before 8 a.m. (30 percent chance). Otherwise, sounds like it'll be partly sunny with a high near 67 and a breeze between 8 and 16 mph.

4) West Side Presbyterian Church will partner with Community Blood Services to hold a blood drive during its Holistic Health Expo on Saturday, October 29. The drive will be held from 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. on a bloodmobile in the parking lot near the entrance to the church located at 6 South Monroe Street.

5) West Bergen Mental Healthcare’s “Trivia Night” is coming up on Friday, Oct. 28, to be held at the Oakland Knights of Columbus clubhouse. Comedian Matt Liebman, a top comic, is the host. Dinner and trivia accompany the laughs. Tickets are $45 per person or $40 each if you buy a pair.
