UPDATED: Two Candidates to Take On Goodman and Brogan for School Board Seats

Gerald Clark and Christina Krauss have filed to run for incumbent seats.

Two more candidates threw their names into the school board hat before Tuesday's 4 p.m. deadline, the district has confirmed. Gerald Clark, a resident of Ellington Road, and Christina Krauss, of Overbrook Road, will be battling for a three-year term, to be decided by voters on April 27.

Krauss has publicly and has also criticized the superintendent and school board's role in the divisive issue, saying the two didn't do enough.

In a letter to The Ridgewood News in June, Krauss wrote of the school board and Dr. Daniel Fishbein, the school's superintendent: "Their position as it pertains to our children’s health and safety is nebulous at best."

Krauss criticized the district for not posting notices of Valley hearings on affected school websites (B.F. and Travell) "while simultaneously reminding us not to 'idle' our cars as it poses a health threat."

"Their sentiment on voters’ desire for meaningful economy is crystal clear, our children’s future health and learning environment, not so much," she wrote. Krauss concluded her letter by urging voters to research candidates and become active, "not apathetic."

In an e-mail to Patch, Clark said he's still skeptical of the board's decision to install the lights at RHS Stadium and Stevens.

"I'm not sure the needs of the residents were taken into consideration," he said.

Bigger picture, Clark said, "The education environment is extremely interesting these days with the economic pressures forcing schools to make some tough decisions on a number of different topics. I'd like to be involved in these decisions over the next few years."

He added that overall, he and his family are "very happy with the schools here in Ridgewood."
