Unlicensed Bergen County Driver Caused Serious Car Crash: Prosecutor

Police arrested a driver from Bergen County after he allegedly crossed a lane and caused a head-on car crash, prosecutors said.

BERGEN COUNTY, NJ — Police arrested a driver from Bergen County after he allegedly caused a serious two-car crash in Elmwood Park earlier this week, authorities announced Tuesday.

According to the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office, Juan P. Alban Naranjo, 24, of Elmwood Park, has been charged with fourth-degree assault by auto and fourth-degree causing injury while driving unlicensed. He was also issued summonses for unrelated motor vehicle offenses.

“On Monday, July 8, the Elmwood Park Police Department responded to a serious two-car motor vehicle accident on Market Street and notified the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Fatal Accident Investigation Unit, which also responded to the scene. An investigation conducted by the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office and the Elmwood Park Police Department revealed that a 2008 Acura sedan, operated by Juan P. Alban Naranjo, was traveling west on Market Street when it crossed into the opposite lane of travel and collided head-on with a 2007 Ford SUV. As a result of the collision, a passenger in the 2007 Ford suffered serious injuries.”

Alban Naranjo was operating his vehicle without a valid driver’s license at the time of the crash, prosecutors said.

An initial court appearance is scheduled for July 19, prosecutors said.
