Village Fire Department Union Unveils New Website

Tips, news, photos and a message to residents all on the site

The men of the union (FBMA Local 47) recently laid out a new website, complete with action photos, a history of the department, safety tips and department news.

Founded as a career department in 1924, the 40-man paid, professional force responded to 2,496 calls in 2011. A three-platoon system, about nine-to-thirteen firefighters are on duty during the day. Most are stationed at Fire Headquarters on East Glen Avenue.

The force is undergoing plans to apply for state accredation, and would be one of three departments in the state should it meet the standard.

We understand the financial impact the economy has had on our residents. We also understand that your tax dollars need to be spent in a way that is not wasteful.

We were the first bargaining unit to work collectively with the Village leadership to save hundreds of thousands of dollars in concessions. We also gave up our raise, worked one overtime shift for time only, and agreed to lower the starting salary for new firefighters. Each of us hopes that you value our services, as much as we value your support of us.
