Village Tannery/Ecco Closes
Shoe and handbag store the latest retail shop to close in the Ridgewood downtown.

You won't find Ecco shoes or Vera Bradley handbags lining the walls of any longer. The partnership store is empty, having closed just over a week ago.
According to Tom Hillmann, who owns the property that also houses his lighting store, , Ecco closed partnership stores after it recently opened a factory retail store in Garden State Plaza.
Village Tannery/Ecco store owners could not be reached for comment Monday but a note on the door read: "To our Customers: Thank you so much for your business over the last few years. We have enjoyed being a part of the community. All the best to you and thank you once again."

It's the latest retail store in Ridgewood to close in the last few months. The Gap, further down on E. Ridgewood Ave., consolidated its Ridgewood operations by and folding its merchandise into its remaining store.
Hillmann said Monday he doesn't know what will replace The Village Tannery/Ecco.
