Wanna Be a School Board Member?

Here's what you need to know if you want to take Charlie Reilly's soon-to-be-vacant seat

The Ridgewood Board of Education is looking for applicants to step up to the plate after long-time member .

The candidate selected by the board will be appointed through spring, when the seat would be up for election. Whomever garners the seat will serve until the term expires, in spring of 2013.

Applications are due to Board Secretary Angelo DeSimone by 4 p.m. on Friday, October 21. The Board will review all applications and interview candidates at the school board meeting on Monday, October 24. The Board will nominate and vote on candidates at the November 7 meeting.

Candidates are required to fill out a series of questions (attached to this article, along with related documents), which the candidate will answer at the October 24 meeting. There may be follow-up questions from current board members at that time.

1.   What prompted you to submit your application to become a member of the Board of Education?  Is there anything in particular that interests you about this position?

2. What do you see as the duties and responsibilities of a Board of Education member?

3.   What personal or professional attributes would you bring to the Board of Education and how do you see it enhancing our operation?

4.   Is there anything in particular that you would like to accomplish while in service to the district?

5. Tell us a bit about your past or current involvement with any professional, community, school, and/or civic organizations.  What roles have you taken within those organizations and how do you feel your involvement has prepared you for service on the Board of Education?

6.  The position you are interviewing for begins on November 21, 2011 and ends on May 7, 2012. Are you able to serve this specific term? Do you think that you would consider running for election in April to complete the term that expires in April 2013?

7.  At this time do you see any limitations or conflicts of interest that might hamper you in fulfilling your responsibilities as a board member?

8.  Do you have any specific questions for us, or need further information at this time?
