Week in Review: Bear Saved, Solar Panel Project Back in Spotlight
Women's civic organizations merge, contractor cited by feds and much more
There was quite a variety of stories this week, from a re-ignition of the controversial PSE&G solar panel project, to dramatic animal rescues, to revealing accounts of one of the world's most popular athletes, to a merger of two of the village's largest civic organizations in town. Take a look at our top seven stories of the week if you've missed anything.
1) You may have forgotten that way back in the winter PSE&G wanted to put up all sorts of solar panels throughout the village. Not so fast, the village said. And somewhat shockingly, the public utility complied after installing just a handful of the panels. , village officials confirmed.
Deputy Mayor Tom Riche said the village was able to negotiate a more favorable outcome than what was proposed – 500 panels. The program is heavily based on federal energy buyback credits and PSE&G says it will allow it to soon power 6,500 homes with solar energy, taking the equivalent of 3,800 cars' emissions off the streets. The village is currently reviewing the map of where the panels will be.

2) What a sight! The mayor, police, fire, Fish & Game, Animal Control all came together to chase around and . The bear was shot with a tranquilizer dart while climbing a tree on Linwood Avenue and fell, but should be fine according to on-scene responders. 4) The Ridgewood Planning Board decided that although a new state law signed into effect by Governor Christie no longer mandates the board to . With a variety of planning issues in the village, a committee and Planner Blais Brancheau will be working toward identifying what should be looked at.

6) So the Woman's Club of Ridgewood and the Junior Woman's Club of Ridgewood were actually already together. Well, sort of. Though the JWC was operating under the Senior Woman's umbrella, the two operated separately. That's all changed. , it was announced this week. Andrea Falco will lead the organization as president and though there are challenges, the ladies are very optimistic they can continue to volunteer and bring some good to Ridgewood and surrounding towns.
7) Being safe is smart, but the federal government said Wednesday that Ridgewood general contractor for the Paramus Prestige Mercedes site, Infante Construction, did so poorly in construction compliance that the . A number of other subcontractors were cited as well. There were a total of 21 violations found by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA).
