Week in Review: Two More Pedestrian Strikes, School Board Shakeup
The school budget also passed
School news dominated the headlines this week with a change on the school board, a passed budget and a 'mistake' in not initially disclosing the latest cleanup cost of the flood-prone fields. Of course, in a village as vibrant as Ridgewood, that's not all that happened. There was an excellent film festival and unfortunately, another two pedestrian strikes in the village. Read our top seven stories of the last week in April.
1) Voters . Goodman placed third in a race for two three-year seats. Fellow incumbent Sheila Brogan remained on the board for her sixth term while newcomer Christina Krauss was the top vote-getter. 2) The budget got the support of the community, passing by a solid margin on Wednesday. The average resident whose house is valued at $797,000 will see taxes increase $190.90 but programs and staff will see no cuts.

3) . A nurse was allegedly struck by a Jeep while crossing the street on Tuesday and a teenage boy was hit on Friday night. Mayor Killion was on the scene out of concern on Tuesday and fortunately, injuries appear minor in that accident. A Carlstadt man received two citations for the accident on South Maple. On Friday, a teenage boy was crossing Godwin toward Pomander Walk when he was struck by what a witness described as a maroon sedan. The boy was rushed to Hackensack University Medical Center with a shoulder injury but police said it was considered not life-threatening.
4) The was a hugely successful one. The red carpets were out, the directors, actors and fans were crowding the sidewalks by the movie theater and we captured the action with some great videos. If things keep up, Ridgewood may soon have that Montclair-theater feel in the upcoming years.

5) The district took a bit of heat after not initially revealing the cost to cleanup the 'wrinkle' at one of the two flood-prone high school fields. Superintendent after questioned directly by then-member Laurie Goodman. The superintendent disclosed the $21,000 cost after directly questioned by Ridgewood News Staff Writer Kelly Ebbels during public comment.
6) The Rutgers roommate accused of using a web cam to spy on Ridgewood native Tyler Clementi , including invasion of privacy (with bias), witness tampering and destruction of evidence. Dharun Ravi, 19 of Plainsboro, will be arraigned on May 23 in Middlesex County. Clementi took his own life after Ravi allegedly outed him as gay on the internet.
7) The brave Ridgewood Police officers who helped capture alleged jewelry store robbers, as well as officers that may have saved the life of an accused arsonist, at an upcoming meeting. Police Chief John Ward said he was proud of his officers.
