What Should Replace Cardventure/Artventure?
Joint storefront on E. Ridgewood Ave. has been vacant for over two years.
Two years later after closing, dual sections of prime real estate on E. Ridgewood Ave. remain untouched, with the electricity turned off and would-be shoppers hurrying past the glass doors.
"You could see it coming," Paul Abate told Patch in January of 2010, just before his joint stores . "Last Christmas was a disaster, and you depend on that to get through the year. I thought we could get through it, but we couldn't."
"It was a perfect storm," said Abate, who bought Artventure/Cardventure from previous owners in 2007. Merchants have complained over the years the property owners –Zabriskie & Kish – were inflexible with rent negotiations. The owners could not be reached for comment.
