Police said a woman was the victim of an assault late Saturday night. One witness at the scene told Patch that while he didn't see an assault take place, he saw a "hysterical, crying" woman on her cell phone dart across Van Neste Square toward the Memorial Park at roughly 11:30 p.m. Police then found the woman seated on the sidewalk at the corner of Dayton Avenue and Van Neste Square. She could be overheard saying, "Everything went dark" just before EMS arrived to transport her to the hospital. Officers on scene confirmed a "simple assault" but said no other information was available and they're investigating the incident.
