Woman Mauled By Dog Inside Gated Bergen County Community: Police
Police had to use a tourniquet after a woman was severely injured by a large dog in Bergen County on Thursday.
BERGEN COUNTY, NJ — A woman was hospitalized Thursday after she was attacked by a large dog in her gated Bergen County community, police said.
Police from Park Ridge and Montvale headed to the Bears Nest Condominium Complex in Park Ridge just after 5 p.m. Thursday on a report of a dog attack, said Park Ridge Lt. James Babcock.
Montvale officers arrived first and gave emergency aid to the victim, who had "multiple serious injuries," Babcock said.

Officers used a tourniquet to control severe bleeding as they waited for the Tri-Boro Volunteer Ambulance Corps to arrive, police said.
The woman was taken to Hackensack University Medical Center and is in stable condition, Babcock said.

An investigation determined that the woman had been walking her small dog on a leash when a leashed rottweiler "became uncontrolled" and attacked her, police said. The small dog was not injured.
The owner of the rottweiler provided police with the dog's vaccination records, they said.
The rottweiler was ordered to undergo a mandatory 10-day quarantine for rabies, as is state protocol, said police.
An unidentified person intervened to help and sustained a minor bite, but declined medical treatment, police said.
Police notified the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office, Bergen County Animal Control, and the Bergen County Health Department, who will determine the next steps.
Police said no further information will be released for now, as the investigation continues.
