BERGEN COUNTY, NJ — A woman was recovering in a hotel room Thursday after a tree sliced through her Bergen County home during Wednesday's storms, injuring her and rendering the house uninhabitable.

Park Ridge Police Capt. Joseph Rampolla said that the woman was struck in the head by falling debris from the ceiling, and was taken to Hackensack Medical Center, but has been released.

"The female victim was sitting on couch in the first floor living room watching TV with her dog next to her," he said Thursday. "The tree was very large and fell, striking the northwest side of the structure and crashed through the upstairs floor and through the first floor ceiling. The woman was struck in the head from falling debris from the ceiling."

He said police responded around 8:37 p.m.

He noted, "Her husband was upstairs in a non-impacted area of the house and rushed down to see what happened. He stated he could barely see from all the dust [and] sheetrock that was crushed. He moved her to an unaffected area of the house and started to provide medical aid."
