A Message To River Edge Residents from Mayor Moscaritolo
The following message from River Edge Mayor Sandy Moscaritolo was provided by Councilwoman Kathleen Murphy

Basic restoration is ongoing and we have made remarkable progress, but it will be some time before things in town are back to the way they were before the hurricane. Our community has displayed courage, cooperation and unyielding patience during this trying time.
Special thanks to our first responders - police, fire, ambulance. Our DPW Superintendent John Lynch and the DPW crew have not stopped working. Thanks to volunteers who just showed up. Volunteers like resident Greg Horn who simply appeared at the firehouse to help serve hot meals to fatigued fire fighters and DPW crews who remained on duty 24/7. We ran Borough Hall and the Firehouse on generators. The Borough lost power, telephone and email. Cell phone service became sporadic. Thank Goodness for texting.

Begining last Monday our Emergency Management team coordinated public alerts and community messages through Nixle and Reverse 911. We also utilized the Library's email database to keep the public informed. I urge everyone to register.
Halloween was cancelled on Wednesday, but we held the first ever "Trick or Treat" at the Cherry Hill Elementary School on Saturday. The event was conceived, planned and executed literally overnight. There was plenty of sunshine and the sense that darkness had passed. It was a great success and helped to bring back a sense of normalcy to our community. A big THANK YOU to Recreation Director Bobbi Conway for helping make this happen on such short notice, Val Duran, Special Events Committee member Maxine Rumsby and Kathy DeSavino for assisting with this event.

Our religious community opened up their houses of worship to everyone. The public schools remain available as comfort stations for heat and charging phones.
PSEG has crews in town from as far away as Missouri and Florida replacing poles and wires. My family is waiting for power to be restored, but we are keeping each other warm knowing we live in River Edge and having friends and neighbors who will always go out of their way to help.
Hang in There!
