Dems Sweep Races; Dream Volleyball Season at River Dell

Welcome to the "Week in Review," a weekly column that highlights the top stories that took place in RiverDell including Election Day and the Lady Hawks volleyball team competing for a sectional title.

While the Oradell race was tied up by Joseph Murray for Mayor since June, incumbent councilman Michael Harte was not able to fend off challenges by to stay on the dais. The governing body is not an entirely Republican-led group.

A few miles down the road, the race to Mayor in River Edge was not so neatly tied up as the results came down to the very last ballot for challenger (D) to unseat Republican Mayor Margaret Watkins. Democrats Kathleen Murphy and Thomas Papaleo both picked up their first teams on the council.

It's been a dream season for the Lady Hawks volleyball team as they swept into the North Group 2 sectional finals on Thursday against Mahwah and brought . Prior to that, the squad took down rival Pascack Valley at home in the . Having only lost three games all season, the Lady Hawks earned top-billing in a highly competative group and on Saturday continued their run to bring home the  ending a 10-year drought with their 25-14, 25-11 win over Sterling High School.
