Letter: Delia Carroll Responds to REEA

Candidate chose to not respond to REEA questionnaire so as to not lie to voters or union

Dear Editor:

A response is needed to the . The questionnaire forwarded did not request our views on education.

As a parent of three young adults one with a Law degree, one with a Teaching degree also finishing her last term for a Master’s degree and our last young adult is finalizing his degree also in teaching. My husband and I have made many sacrifices to assist our children advance in their education which makes us strong proponents.

My personal actions further demonstrate our view by attending classes at night for nine years to receive a degree in Accounting followed by a Masters in Administration.

One of the questions forwarded by the REEA to my attention and I quote was “While these are tough economic times some local political leaders believe school employees should take a pay freeze to maintain lower property tax rates. While shared sacrifice is a laudable sound bite, school employees in the district do not see their utility bills or food bills being lowered. How will you work with the River Edge Education Association to improve the Town Council’s and school district’s public relations image?”

The above question would require that I turn my back on the people of River Edge including the senior citizens with a fixed income. I did not respond because in order to respond and apparently receive an endorsement from the REEA I would be lying to either the teachers’ association or the people of River Edge.

I decided to become a council candidate for the betterment of River Edge and naturally betterment includes quality education. Financially, the Borough currently requires assistance to tunnel the residents out of the over and wasteful spending supported by the Democratic council majority for the past ten years.

My promise to the people of River Edge is that I will work hard to help the Borough recover from the dire straits the Democratic majority has positioned upon our residents.

Sincerely,

Delia Joyce Carroll

River Edge Council Candidate
