Oradell Baking Duo Fall Short in "Cupcake Wars"
The Art of Cake's Tammy Dunwoody and Amy Lung of Heavenly Treats competed through three rounds of the Food Network competition
Despite several setbacks and complications, Oradell's Tammy Dunwoody and Glen Rock's Amy Lung fought their way through three rounds of Food Network's Cupcake Wars on Sunday evening before coming up just short in the end.
The two bakers from and competed for the opportunity to serve their cupcakes at a VIP party celebrating the release of "Private Practice" star Kate Walsh's fragrance, Billionaire Boyfriend.
Walsh, who served as a guest judge alongside the shows primary cupcake aficionados Candace Nelson (owner of Sprinkles Cupcakes) and Florian Bellanger (chef and co-owner of online macaroon company MadMac), challenged the baking duo and their competitors to create a billionaire cupcake that not only tasted good, but also looked and smelled good as well.

Lung and Dunwoody began the competition with incorporating items such as oranges, plums and honey into their first treat for a vanilla cupcake filled with a plum compote spiced with white wine and brown sugar topped off with a honey and orange cream cheese frosting. This heavenly scented cupcake also served as cause for their first setback as the first batch of plum compote burnt on the stovetop and needed to be redone.
And while the judges thought the vanilla cupcake was delicious it was not worthy of a billionaire boyfriend. But the lucky ladies were saved by their flavor combinations to create three more cupcakes.

The newest creations included a dark chocolate cake with cherries, chocolate ganache and a bowtie, a strawberry champagne cake with champagne frosting and a pink jewel, and an upside down pineapple cake complete with graham cracker base, whipped cream frosting and a chocolate seashell.
But the overall reaction was that neither the decorations or cupcakes were anything special although Dunwoody and Lung's luck continued to be in their favor as they were chosen to create a 1000 cupcake masterpiece and tweak their four prior creations.
Their masterpiece display, paying homage to the lifestyles of the rich and famous, placed the billionaire boyfriend and his lucky lady silhouetted against the moon above a yacht covered in cupcakes. And while this was the first time in the show's three seasons any competitor had opted for a yacht-styled display, the duo's luck finally gave way and settled for second place in the competition.
If you missed the episode, Food Network will air it again on Tuesday, July 17, 8pm and Saturday, July 21, 1pm.
