Oradell Girl Scouts Bridge the Gap
Members took part in the 2012 centennial by walking across the GWB
Girl Scouts from across Northern New Jersey descended upon on Sunday to take part in a "bridging" ceremony along the George Washington Bridge.
Among the more than 2,500 Girl Scouts participating was Oradell Girl Scout Troop 1517 to honor and celebrate the upcoming 100th birthday of Girl Scouting.
The organization was formed in 1912, when founder Juliette Gordon Low formed the first Girl Scout troop in Savannah, Ga. To commemorate the occasiona, President Barack Obama signed the "Girl Scouts of the USA Commemorative Coin Act" for the 100th Anniversary celebration. The act authorized the minting of 350,000 silver dollar coins in honor of Girl Scouts and the achievements of the 50 million women influenced by Girl Scouting during the last 100 years.

Nationally, there will be a Girl Scouts 100th Anniversary float in the Pasadena, California Tournament of Roses Parade of 2012, while Colorado is working to create a special license plate to honor the Girl Scout Centennial.
The aim of the Girl Scouts is that girls will develop to their full potential by pursuing four goals: developing their full potential; relating to others with increasing understanding, skill, and respect; developing a meaningful set of values to guide their actions and to provide for sound decision-making; and contributing to the improvement of society
