OPD Investigating Luring Incident on Woodland Avenue

Oradell Police are investigating a potential luring incident after a seven-year-old resident on Woodland Avenue reported being approached by an unknown white male outside of her home this week.

A River Dell alum and assistant boys soccer coach, Christopher Lubben, 48, of Oradell has been accused of simple assault stemming from an incident at Rite Aid this week when he alledgedly punched a 17-year-old boy in the head.

Since being drafted in the 15th round by the Houston Texans in 2009, Park Ridge native and Bergen Catholic alum Brian Cushing has never missed a game. But after the Texans 23-17 victory over the New York Jets on Monday night, the 25-year-old middle linebacker will now sit out the remainder of the season after suffering a torn ACL.

For the past 11 years Herb Ouida of River Edge has continued to dedicate his life towards helping others. At the same time, New Jersey Monthly has been honoring men and women like Ouida who give back to the state for the past nine. Recently, Ouida was recognized by the magazine as a 2012 Seed of Hope honoree.

After reading article after article last year about Tyler Clementi, Jamey Rodemeyer and the many teenagers that committed suicide due to bullying, tenists Darryl Engel and Adam Schulhof of KinderSmiles in Oradell decided that they would find a way to help initiate a conversation between parents and children. The "wall" was born this August and every child that enters the office is encourage to sign their name in the Band Against Bullying campaign.

While the River Edge Planning Board's main duties are to update and enforce the borough's Master Plan, the board was recently offered the opportunity to review a funding ordinance that called for the demolition of the American Legion. But with the Mayor and Council opting to wait until November to decide the building's fate, members on the Planning Board agreed to wait as well.

Last week, Cherry Hill school participated in a week of respect, drawing attention to being kind to each other and acting respectful. To conclude their week of activities, they had an enrichment last Friday withmagician Jim Vagias. Vagias presented "Bully-Proof Your School" which used magic, humor, storytelling and audience participation to engage students imaginations and teach them life affirming messages.

For the past several years, the Oradell Kids Foundation (OKF) has dedicated itself toward promoting the active lifestyle for children in the borough. On Saturday, the organization held its annual 5K and One-Mile Fun Run after a one-year hiatus.

Over the weekend, approximately 100 adult artists from around Bergen County descended upon Van Saun Park for the 48th annual Art in the Park show and concert. 

Last month John Fugazzie was at the White House, participating in a program promoting grass-roots efforts to help laid-off workers find jobs. On Thursday morning Fugazzie walked into his job as director of dairy frozen products at A&P in Montvale only to be called into his boss’s office and told he was being let go, a victim of the latest round of layoffs there. The founder of a support group for people who find themselves out of work, Fugazzie will now have to put to use the job-searching tools and networking advice his organization has provided to hundreds of individuals across North Jersey.

The Oradell Public Library recently introduced new Youth Services librarian Robin Rockman. The mother of two children, ages 7 and 3, received her Masters in Library and Information Science from Rutgers and has worked in public, school, academic and corporate libraries, special collections and archives.
