2 Injured, Utility Poles Damaged In Rumson Crash: Police

The accident occurred Sunday evening at the intersection of East River and Blackpoint Roads, Rumson Police Lt. Christopher Isherwood said.

RUMSON, NJ — Two people were brought to the hospital and two utility poles were damaged following a motor vehicle crash on Sunday evening, Rumson Police Lt. Christopher Isherwood said.

Around 5 p.m. on Sunday, Isherwood said patrol officers were dispatched to the intersection of East River and Blackpoint Roads for a report of a serious, single-car motor vehicle accident.

Once officers arrived, they found that a 2022 Ford Explorer with five people in it had been traveling northbound on East River Road when it veered into the southbound lane.

The vehicle broke through a utility pole before it continued northbound, Isherwood said, colliding with and damaging another utility pole.

Two passengers in the vehicle were brought to Riverview Medical Center with complaints of pain following the crash, according to police.

As a result of the accident, the intersection remained closed until 7 a.m. on Tuesday while JCP&L crews replaced both utility poles.

A subsequent power outage affected about eight residents and was restored on Sunday afternoon.

The Rumson Fire Department, Rumson EMS, and the Fair Haven and Little Silver Police Departments assisted at the scene. The incident remains under investigation.
