5 Things You Need to Know Today: Oct. 5

1. Sunny Skies: Don't forget to grab your shades as you run out the door because according to the National Weather Service, today will be sunny with a high near 71 degrees. There will be a northwest wind between 10 and 17 mph. Tonight will be clear with a low around 51 degrees and a north wind around 11 mph.

2. Timber! Many Rumson residents have been frustrated and concerned since May with what they call a "clear cutting" on Navesink Ave. This past Monday, their concerns were put to rest as the Planning Board made a final decision about an appeal that has been dragged out for months. They ruled that the tree removal permit for 35 Navesink Avenue must be modified to require the additional planting of trees, the remaining trees are protected and erosion control measures are implemented. 5. Not Time Yet: Saying that "now is not my time," New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie announced Tuesday that he will not seek the Republican nomination for president in 2012.
