5 Things You Need to Know Today: Sept 13

A round-up of useful information and events happening around Rumson and Fair Haven today.

Here is a list of 5 things you need to know today:

1. Sunny Skies: Grab your shades as you run out the door because according to the National Weather Service, today will be sunny with a high around 82 degrees. Tonight is expected to be partly cloudy with a low around 66 degrees. There will be a southwest wind between 8 and 13 mph. 

2. Girls, Girls, Girls: A local committee is looking to determine the need of a Catholic all-girls high school in Monmouth County. The committee, which according to its website is a group of parents and leaders in the county, is “seeking to establish an independent all-girls Catholic high school.” The executives of the committee are two couples from Rumson, friends for years, with 7 girls between two families and a desire to send their daughters to a one-sex school. 3. Volunteer of the Year: Local mom of 4, Tracy Cuje, was named the Fair Haven Volunteer of the Year. There were over half-a-dozen nominations for this very special title. Mayor Michael Halfacre read a proclamation recognizing Cuje at the council meeting on September 12. Click to read more about Cuje and her new title. 

4. The  (RFH) Varsity football team opened their season with a victory against the Barnegat Bengals. Barnegat was the first to put points on the board and by halftime the Dawgs were down 13-0, but the Dawgs on the field and in the Dawg Pound believed in this team and their ability to come from behind.  Although the dogs and cats scratched and clawed their way up and down the field, it was the Bulldogs that earned the win with a final score of 21-16. 5. Ruff and Reading: Head to the around 4:00 today to practice reading with your child and enjoy some furry friends. Everyone is welcome to experience a relaxed and friendly environment where children practice their reading skills as they read storybooks to therapy dogs.
