Attempted House Break-In Prompts Alert From Rumson Police

Rumson residents are urged to secure homes, cars after two people tried to break into a house in the borough Friday morning.

RUMSON, NJ — Rumson residents are being advised to take extra measures to secure their homes and cars after an attempted home burglary Friday, police said.

Early Friday morning, Oct. 13, "individuals associated with the ongoing problem of stolen vehicles in our area made an attempt to gain entry into a residence," said Rumson Police Chief Jeffrey Nixon.

Nixon said the incident happened in the area of Ridge Road and Dogwood Lane.

The individuals were tracked in the vicinity of Somerset Lane, he said in a news release.

"Thankfully, no residences were successfully breached during these incidents," Nixon said.

He said Rumson residents are "strongly encouraged" to secure their homes and vehicles and activate alarm systems.

And he said residents should contact the police promptly at 732-842-0500 or at 911 if they observe any suspicious activity.

"While this concern extends beyond our community, it remains our top priority to eliminate it. We urge you to stay vigilant and support our efforts by reporting any unusual activities," Nixon said.
