ENGLEWOOD, NJ — With the heatwave hitting New Jersey this week, residents are advised to take caution. And for those who need it, there is a cooling center in town, at Bicentennial Hall, located at 25 Cedar Ave.
The building will be open 24/7 until further notice, according to police.
The National Weather Service has issued an excessive heat warning for most of the state that is in effect through Thursday night.

Forecasters are predicting "dangerously hot conditions," with heat index values around 110 on Thursday. Maximum temperatures will occur between noon and 8 p.m. each afternoon.
In addition to the stifling heat, a slight chance of late-day thunderstorms is possible each day this week, with a higher chance on Friday, according to the National Weather Service.

Here is the latest forecast for the Jersey Shore:
- Thursday: Sunny, with a high near 87. South wind 10 to 15 mph.
- Thursday night: Chance of showers and thunderstorms before 2 a.m. Patchy fog after 2 a.m. Otherwise, partly cloudy, with a low around 76. Southwest wind 10 to 15 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30 percent. New rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.
- Friday: Patchy fog before 8 a.m. Otherwise, mostly sunny, with a high near 87. West wind 5 to 10 mph becoming south in the afternoon.
- Friday Night: A chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly before 2 a.m. Patchy fog after 2 a.m. Otherwise, partly cloudy, with a low around 75. Southwest wind 10 to 15 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30 percent. New rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.
- Saturday: A slight chance of showers and thunderstorms before 8 a.m, then a chance of showers between 8 a.m and 2 p.m, then showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm after 2 p.m. Patchy fog before 8 a.m. Otherwise, partly sunny, with a high near 84. West wind around 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60 percent. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.
