Boat Crashes Into Rumson-Sea Bright Bridge

The crash occurred Friday evening when the boat lost directional control and hit the bridge, an NJ State Police spokesperson told Patch.

RUMSON, NJ — Authorities are investigating after a boat crashed into the Rumson-Sea Bright Bridge on Friday evening, an NJ State Police spokesperson told Patch.

The U.S. Coast Guard and NJ State Police responded to the scene on Friday, following a report from the Sea Bright Fire Department of a 45-50-60 foot pleasure craft that collided with the bridge.

Based on a preliminary investigation, NJ State Police said the vessel lost directional control and hit the bridge.

Following the crash, a Coast Guard boat crew from Station Sandy Hook was launched, and the station confirmed that three people and one dog were aboard the boat.

According to a U.S. Coast Guard spokesperson, all four were safely transported to shore with no reported injuries by NJ State Police.

Sea Tow also responded to the crash and removed the vessel from the bridge, while the boat was towed to a nearby marina.

As of Monday afternoon, authorities said there have been no reports of pollution, and the incident remains under investigation.
